About this property

Welcome to English Inn

Located at 429 Lampson Street in Victoria's West Bay neighborhood, English Inn offers guests a country-style experience within a cluster of Tudor-style manors dating back to 1906. Set on 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens, the property blends historic charm with tranquil outdoor spaces. Visitors can enjoy complimentary breakfast and free parking during their stay, though amenities like air conditioning or a fitness center are not available.

The inn operates with a check-in time from 16:00 and check-out by 11:00. Rooms reflect an English cottage character, consistent with the hotel's heritage aesthetic, although some guests have noted issues such as ceiling mould and a lack of modern conveniences. The property’s smoke-free environment and on-site bar contribute to a relaxed atmosphere, while the nearby Janevca Kitchen & Lounge provides additional dining options.

English Inn functions both as a hotel and event venue, popular particularly for weddings. Several reviews highlight the venue's charming historic setting and accommodating staff, emphasizing its suitability for smaller, intimate celebrations rather than large-scale events due to spatial constraints. The surrounding area offers a variety of attractions including the Royal BC Museum, Beacon Hill Park, and Craigdarroch Castle, each within a short drive or walk.

Although some practical aspects like parking navigation and room maintenance have been mentioned by guests, the property attracts visitors seeking a traditional English country ambiance with easy access to Victoria’s waterfront and local amenities. It compares well with nearby accommodations, offering a distinctive heritage experience in a suburban setting approximately 4 km from downtown Victoria.

We stayed there for our honeymoon! Our 3rd son and his wife are taking a vacation to Victoria this coming summer. We recommended going to the Old English and Anne Hathaway's cottage...I'm devastated it's closed for now. I truly hope you reopen soon!! Wonderful memories we had and we stayed in the Juliet room!! Come back!!!!

Loved my stay there! But a few things I believe they can fix: the roof wooden structure had mould in it. The whole ceiling with wood design inside our room was mouldy with white stuff in it. Seems like it wasn’t polished or cleaned in a long time. Except this and construction and difficulty in finding the parking lot, I liked their service, place and ambience! It was difficult to find entrance from parking lot to our room as well lol. Regardless I liked the place! For the price I paid, I expected a bit more clean room especially the ceiling mould and dust. And better navigation throughout the place They were very accommodating to our requests and front desk night staff were kind and polite. The place gives good English cottage vibes!

I have held several events at the English Inn over the last few years. It is a most lovely property with fairy-tale heritage ambiance. Heather, their GM is awesome. Always willing to go the extra mile to meet your needs.

The English inn is a beautiful old heritage style building with incredible gardens. Beautiful place for weddings or for a romantic getaway. Rooms lack certain modern amenities like air conditioning but otherwise an exceptional place.

If you can imagine a page out of an old English fairy tale, this is it. If you love old world charm, you will love this place. It's true to its roots... don't expect super modern amenities (for its charm it has plenty of amenities, however!), but expect tons of old world charm. The room was clean, and comfortable. The picturesque building is a marvel to look at! And, close to lots of food, and only minutes from the water.

The staff was very friendly - so hospitable!!! Nice little lounge where we played Scrabble (provided by the inn). Room was clean and we had a beautiful private rooftop deck. The only room for improvement in my opinion is a new mattress and pillows would make sleeping more comfortable. Excellent stay!

Ideal location for a small wedding. Lots of history, charm and character. However, it would be difficult for a larger wedding. Dining area has a lot of pillars and there is no open space for a dance floor (the lobby was used for the party we attended).

Choosing the English Inn for our wedding was the right decision. The building and grounds are stunning - any wedding photographer's dream. Each room has it's own special character and the authentic old English feel added a touch of magic to the whole celebration, and gave guests from out of town a real 'Victoria' experience. Heather (GM) was very accommodating and was attentive to details, as were all the staff. We especially liked the flexibility in areas where we found other venues to have ridged rules - like set up and take down time restrictions for example. Heather really made our wedding a no-stress day. All of our guests commented how much they liked this venue and we can't wait to find another reason to go back.
